Wave’s primary service is Accounting (The company used to be called “Wave Accounting”). Deeply integrating that with mobile check deposit was very feasible, would have a large accounting impact, and satisfied 4 out of the 6 company initiatives.
Business owners come to Wave for Accounting and Invoicing. With the banking product and mobile check deposit, this integration would unlock a magical, never-before-seen Invoicing + Accounting + Banking experience. Delivering on the company initiative to be the single source of truth for business owners.
I collaborated with the invoice and accounting team to gather requirements for what is involved in the invoice flow and the accounting experience. I collaborated with invoicing and Compliance to understand what is behind a check deposit.
I also collaborated with the accounting team on the back-end infrastructure to understand the impact of this feature across all Wave services.
I then collaborated with another designer on how the invoice match might work in the current flow and design.

Adding extra steps to the check deposit flow could be considered adding friction. I needed to get a sense of how business owners reacted to this. I moved to testing comprehension and general sentiment towards the updated flow concepts.
